Ft. Dodge, Dec. 8 - '43 Dear Frances We received the radio tube and package of xmas cards yesterday. Tom put the tub in place and the radio runs O.K. He has tried to get one but they did not seem to have them here. It was very good of you to send it, we thank you very much also the Xmas cards are much appreciated. Cecil wrote us that you were well and busy, so I hope you are still in your usual health. Aunt Bess was pleased too as it is a help to pass time for her and it seems so quiet here for her. She is getting along very walks as well as ever and does dishes and other light work in fact help a lot. I have had a good deal of rheumatic trouble in my hands & fingers, some better now but hard to hold a pencil and I cannot sew at all but as there is some improvement I hope they will son be O.K We had a good visit with Cecil. She brightened us up a lot also helped with work & everything. Dad & Tom are well, they have both worked all year without a day off and seem to stand it very well. I am so thankful as there is no help to get. Uncle Dolph is sick, has the old fashioned flu the Dr. says. also Charles is in the Hospital. He had an appendix operation a week ago Sun. could soon go home if they didn't have flu. I hope the operation will clear up his trouble. My writing is so poor I fear you cannot read it, & my fingers cramp so I will close for this time. Is there any chance you spend Xmas with us? I do not know as yet if any of the family can come. Lots of Love to you. - Mother
