817-19 St. S.E Cedar Rapids, Iowa January 17, 1943 Dearest, It was such a thrill to hear you talk this morning. That is the next best substitute to being right with you. Before when we walked long distances we always had some tough problem to try to deal with, but this morning it was all nice and leisurely. we even wasted time a little bit because we hadn't planned it, but it seemed good to be able to have some pauses like you were in another part of town instead of being a thousand miles away. I hope you call again. soon if you think you'll not be in the states very long. It will make you seem here that much longer. I was at Hazels and Earls for dinner. I called them to tell about our conversation and they asked me over then. About an hour ago I cam home. we are going to Rays after a lunch at Carls. I'll drive our car as I have plenty
