Inf. - APO 759 Postmaster, New York New York Mrs. Lloyd Davis (Sender's name) 817 19th St. SE (Sender's address) Cedar Rapids, Iowa March 31, 1943 (Date) Dearest, not so warm today as yesterday but a nice spring day. Since the last day of the month, we had the usual office routines to complete. A big batch of work that is not very interesting but the routines have to be done so we can keep the interesting parts of our jobs on schedules. The river rose a lot today. Must have rained up north. After work I went with Leone and Jack up to see how the boathouse was standing since the Sunday repairs and the high water. It was doing fine. I cooked supper at home, ran two batches of clothes. Mrs. Fisher was over and then because we got to discussing carpets I had to go their basement to get an illustrated lecture on grades of carpet. It was real interesting and I learned a lot. So far this week I've had to crawl through the bedroom window only twice because I locked myself out! I haven't done that since last fall when I was getting ready to go to Baltimore. It is good I'm athletic enough so I have no trouble getting in! War news is good. The sooner the whole miserable job can be done, the sooner you, and all the other boys can go home. Some don't appreciate home as much as you do. And you can be sure I'm busy trying to keep a home, not just a house, for us. You give love so that it is worth every effort to keep and build the spirit of our home all the time. When we can both be here again we will both find it easier. But we will do a good job being tough until then. Love to Laddie, Laura V...-MAIL POST OFFICE DEPARTMENT PERMIT NO. 1
