817-19 St SE Cedar Rapids, Iowa April 10, 1944 Dearest, It was such a nice surprise to have your April 2 letter in the mail box when I stopped at the house this afternoon. You see I didn't even hope for one because one came Saturday, but I stopped at the house to get the umbrella. It suddenly started to rain this afternoon and I thought I'd better get the umbrellas before I went on to do a home visit. I read your letter, then went to do the visit. It was on 2 St N.W, and when I got there the house was placarded for chicken pox. I've never had the chicken pox so I didn't go in. Even so, my trip out in the rain was worthwhile, because I got your letter. I am glad you are at a good station now. I will be gladder when you are home again, or at least in the States so I can go to you. If you ever draw an assignment in the States I want to spend whatever minutes possible with you. I'm so grateful for your safety that I don't complain you are overseas. But sometimes I think of all the time we are having taken away from us by this war. I
