Saving...
817 - 19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa September 5, 1942 Dearest, It is very close to midnight but I still hope to send you a fair letter. Bess and her friend got the last two seats on the City of Denver so they arrived earlier than I expected. Today I got a call from Churchill and went to the Clerk's office to open the estate. Then I went to see Mrs Hunt and she said Beeson told her I'd get my old pay plus the 5% general raise they voted for all employees when "a matter of politics" and "a penalty for Mr Petty" had been settled. She of course did not guarantee they would do anything more than $100. I decided it was worth a try. I'd like to go to you and not bother at all about the county but Mrs Hunt said I could take time off to visit you when it seemed the right time (the two army wives in the office already have). Also I could quit whenever I could go with you. Finished getting the car in shape and the transfer completed. Jack and Leone cleaned the spots from the upholstery with some special stuff Auto Parts has.
