41 817 - 19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa September 6, 1942 Dearest, Today I got a little earlier start on your letter as it isn't yet seven o'clock. Of course, I won't be too speedy in getting it finished because I've an English program of our army and navy boys on the air. Yesterday's letter was 40, but I don't think I wrote it on your page, but I did put it on my stationery box where I keep the record of the dates and the numbers of the letters I send to you. I just woke up from a nap of almost two hours. Bess and Bill left at four-thirty. I was tired I know, but it had been so interesting I did not realize it until I lay down after they left. Leone and Jack came for breakfast and you never heard so much talking and carrying on except when Lenore and Lumie put on a show! Bill Grieves is an engineer, British - old top - and never been west of Chi in his life. Was in British army & U.S. Coast Artillery in the last war. He makes dies and tools for the govt. in sub contracts. He and Jack and Leone aired their troubles over priorities and he told about the war boards in Detroit. He did ore kissing and petting and "dearing" here than you and I would ever do before anyone. Bess isn't taken in by it but plays the part nicely. She told me that for
