817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa September 19, 1942 Dearest, Today was rainy and cold. All that nice summer weather I bragged about was too much to last. But we are not having bad weather at that. I'll fire up the furnace in the morning maybe and take out the dampness. I'm writing this on the kitchen table at Hazel's. Came over after nine, talked, looked at wish book etc. Now she is reading my paper while I write to you. Betty got in last night at 11 and came over from [Olver's?] at 12. We had so much talking to do that the night was too short. We got up at 7:15 as I had to go to work and she to Iowa City. She certainly likes her new job. Then with Mrs Hunt and others we had lunch. Shopped and visited around all afternoon until I had my hair do at 4. Then I had Kate Engle and Betty over for supper. We had a really nice meal and initiated the dishes. The house was cold and time had been too short to fire the furnace so I shut the kitchen door and lit the oven. It was dozy and we had a good visit. Then Betty left to go to
