817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa September 25, 1942 Dearest, Four o'clock in the afternoon. And I'm feeling much better. I have so far today consumed 1 gallon and 2 glasses of water (a bit of that liquid was lemon & grape juice but not much). That was Dr Nurgers orders. She came last night after I had written your note and she was here this afternoon. Now I can have vegetables to eat, fruit, & fruit juice. No meat, starch, or sugar. I can increase solid foods each day now and cut the liquid intake to half -- in other words 1 glass every hour instead of every half hour like today. That will be a relief. Though I'm still to struggle with quart of salt water every morning before breakfast. I'm feeling pretty good now and my chief complaint is weakness and a slight ache in rt. template. When I see you I'll tell you what all she says about my spine. Nothing serious but rather interesting. You can tell by my letter that I'm better. It was a poor little note I wrote you yesterday but figured it a lot better than none. Effie is here again today. Esther stayed last night and Ardy will tonight. If I continue
