817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa November 29, 1942 Dearest, We just finished listening to Winston Churchill's speech. Ray went to Aplington to hunt pheasants so Emilie was a hunters widow again. She called me to come to dinner just when I was getting ready for church. We had a big feed of course. Now she is reading and I am writing. There is a big fire in the fireplace and good music from the radio. So you see we are in as solid comfort as possible. I'd rather be in any hole of a place if you could be there than in ease some where like this. It quit snowing in the night as is quite moderate today. The sun is shining brightly. The
