817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa December 11, 1942 Dearest, Here it is 7 o'clock of a Friday morning. I'm at the desk, I mean walnut table, in the dining room, feet on register, and busy consuming salt water whenever possible! It seems to have snowed a little last night. Yesterday morning I didn't even know it had snowed until I went out to go to work Guess Mr. Harger must have been the one who shoveled our walk -- even up to the front door. I have been riding to work with Irish this week. Last night Lucy Siver went back to work with me and helped me on budgets. That was a real lift both psychologically and in having her there to answer questions. Budgets are about twice as complicated as they were when I worked there before. I got home a bit after ten last night so you see I didn't have much free time. I told Mrs Ettinger again, and finally, that I wouldn't take the job I've suggested Virginia for it. Time will tell what comes of that. There doesn't seem to be much news. Most all I've done has been work. And it is too
