817-19 St. S.E Cedar Rapids, Iowa December 17, 1942 Dearest, Already it is bed time. I wrote the short (but so important!) note to you to get it into the evening collection. I had been home such a short time to write at all because I went back down town after taking a car to the shop. I did a bit of Christmas shopping. Then I ate supper at the Harmony with Mrs Hunt, as it happened she was eating alone when I got there. Then it took a long wait before I got a UH bus. Since I wrote the note to you I've had a couple phone calls but except for those interruptions I've worked all evening on Santa Claus. A box is now all ready to go to PO to go on to you. And a tiny one of a book to Sue. Maurice won't get his by Christmas but he'll be able to use the things just as well when he does get it. I'll buy an official box to mail his things in (as may go overseas). I have them gift wrapped. Besides the food I got when you were with me at Crosses I purchase a copy of "Arabian Nights" and a Riverside New Testament for him. Packages came from Johanna at Oakdale and from sister Bess. I won't touch them until Christmas of course. I'll be here that day and will have all day to do the job then. I looked again today for something for Colet. I finally decided upon a pair of sleepers.
