817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa December 24, 1942 Dearest, Yesterday I didn't write to you at all. I'm not sure that is the first time I've missed, but I almost think it is. It wasn't that I was sick or otherwise disabled. But as you gathered from the miserable little note I sent from here Tuesday, you knew I had a cold. Well, on Wednesday I had to work pretty hard and last evening I did several things. By the time I got around to writing it was so late I knew it wouldn't go out and I was tired so I didn't think it would be legible. I'm sorry I missed and I hope you didn't worry about me. Now I'll tell you about last night. After work I came home and fixed up the fire etc. I was still on a liquid diet, mostly, to try to beat the cold. Mrs Pritchard sent her daughter over with samples of the Christmas goodies she had made. Then Elsie stayed and asked a lot of questions about army things as some boy she has helped in school is drafted and going Saturday.
