817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa December 26, 1942 Dearest, Saturday afternoon and I am going to start your letter early. I didn't want to work this morning. I didn't think business would be rushing and it was pouring rain out. I figured a couple hours out might make my sore throat really bad. I have no fever and it is staying the same, or maybe a bit better, so I'm glad I did stay home. And it had now quit raining. The sky is heavily overcast yet. I suppose it could easily turn colder and snow. But you know how poor a weather prophet I always am, so don't take any stock in my forecast! Being home this morning I got early your letter written Monday. Your loving me and tell me so is lots more important than a special card for Christmas that may not have nearly as nice or important a message on it. Freddie called a while ago. He had talked to Riley and said Joe knew
