817 - 19 St. SE Cedar Rapids, Iowa December 28, 1942 Dearest, Here I am sitting in Freddie's office. Lucy & I are waiting for a ride. Some sort of a project is going on out on the floor so it looks like we will have some time to kill. I thought I'd start your letter instead of just sitting and maybe fidgeting. I certainly don't want to get into the class he put some of the kids as being "oneasy" while waiting for a ride. Today was very busy but not in any way disagreeable. I'd like to be able to tell you in some detail about a base of a baby today. Its mother may have a brain tumor and its father (parents divorced) in the navy. She was sent to IC hoop today and I had to lug the 11 1/2 mos old fellow around from the mission, to the doctor, to the Childrens Home. He was such a good baby - not one single whimper in the whole process. I got a taste in the 1 1/2 hours it took of how much muscle it takes to tote Junior around!
