No. 29 Pvt. Lloyd Davis, 37420240 Co C.-9th Bn.-1st Repl. Depot A.P.O. 781, c/o Postmaster New York, New York Mrs. Lloyd Davis 817 19th St. SE Cedar Rapids, Iowa April 15, 1943 Dearest, Again I'm writing yesterday's letter today! [illegible] the supper over at Ida Hampton's [illegible] Baldwin who is quiting to be just a plain housewife instead of a career wife. Her husband has just been released from t.b. cure to do full time work. So she is very happy. But she isn't being replaced so they all have 30 or 40 more cases apiece now. The "boys" are certainly on the [owl?] order now for a spell. I told Mrs Hunt they tried to make us [illegible] step-children all the time! When times are tough we are hated because we give things to people and when times are good and we have only disabled clients they hate us for not having good strong people to work at county farm or on the [illegible]! So it goes. Small people have to act important over something. That's no new or serious complaint but you know "the boys" so well this report ought to make you feel like old times! Pd house insurance for three years today. They liked the chocolate cake at the inner. I'll make better cake for you when you get home. It certainly is fine to have received three letters from you. Don't know why you don't get my letter. But you can be sure they are sent all the time. [illegible] my husband, Love, Laura [smiley face doodle]
