No. 44 Pvt. Lloyd Davis, 37420240 Co. C.-9th Bn.-1st Repl. Depot A.P.O. 761, c/o Postmaster New York, New York Mrs. Lloyd Davis 817 19th St. SE Cedar Rapids, Iowa April 30, 1943 Dearest, A lovely spring day -- everything is so green. And the sun is bright [illegible]. But it is real cool. Frost is predicted for tonight in fact. Today was Mary Rozamo's last day. She goes May 10 to Fort [illegible] wood as a nurse. Being the last day of the month, we had to usual clerical red tape to take care of. Came out pretty well on it this month. Now that it is so spring like i'm beginning to miss driving all I like to do. There is black market gas, but we want none of that. I'm not complaining to go without gas if it will help end the war. But you know how we liked little drives. After you get back there shouldn't need to be restrictions, so we'll enjoy it then. I would rather ride with you (even when you "make me do all the work and you sit in the leisure department") than anyone else. I wrote a hurried note to Ardy. Otherwise you got my only letter writing attention this week. Today ended the first month of meat ration points and the stores were full of people who had hoarded the points for fear they run short, and they traded them out today. People are more used to canned food point than meat, but it goes pretty smoothly and no one I know of complains about it. I love my husband. Goodnight, laddie. Laura
