Pvt Lloyd Davis, 37420240 New York, New York Mrs. Lloyd Davis 817 19th St. SE Cedar Rapids, Iowa May 7, 1943 Dearest, It is the best thing of the day to write to my laddie. Since no letters came for so long now, I've taken out some of the letters you wrote me when still in the States. They are certainly good letters and they make me feel good to have them to read. You said things plainly, both the tough and the good things. I guess I've done the same in letters to you. Insurance, farming with Geo and stuff like that I try to do and to tell you about so our best future can come out of all these mean problems. And I hope I can manage stuff and have sound judgement on things so we will have everything in good shape for us for the years we will have together after the war.If I've said to you the good things as well as you have in the old letters I've been rereading, I'm glad. Leone and Jack took me with them to Luellas tonight. Jerry goes to the army tomorrow. I took him a string like I got for Harry for his toga. Uncle Len went too. Luella certainly has nice decent family of youngsters. I mailed candy, the repaired table-cloth and a couple little kitchen things to mother tonight. I'll go to bed now and think how much I love you and I'll put matters up to the Lord too. A meeting today on my new job here in the town sounds like I may get it. If you especially prefer I always occupy our house you will be pleased. nothing positive yet but will know soon. Love Laura
