No. 97 Pvt.Lloyd Davis, 37420240 Co D. 39th Inf. Regt. APO 9 c/o Postmaster New York, New York Mrs. Lloyd Davis 817 19th St. S. E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa June 22, 1943 Dearest, Miss Hartleb of State Child Welfare rolled into town today to survey for a childrens worker here. Maybe I'll be back with them as their worker here. Things go just as uncertain as usual though so I'll believe it when I am actually on the job. There were some big questions I raised about what I was to do and who was to be my boss, and I'm real pleased that Miss Hart. seems to be getting those points ironed out. I paid for our next winters coal today and it was been in the basement about 10 days. So at least we will have fuel next winter. It is the same kind as we got last year except I had a little egg size mixed in. I have been checking the official records of a 35 acre plot Earl is interested in, and so they came over tonight to get the information. Hazel & I cut off the cloth for new kitchen curtains and she took them home to make for us. That will be a real help. McIlvain's had no sooner gone than ARdy stopped. She got her orders today to go tomorrow morning to West Union. So she is all ready now to leave. She is pleased to think she really got that location. We went to Dysarts and met very accidentally two of our classmates. So that called for more visiting and made it late in the evening. Goodnight laddie. Love, Laura
