No. 108 Pvt. Lloyd Davis, 3742240 Co. D. 39th Inf. Regt. APO 9 % Postmaster New York, New York Mrs Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S.E Cedar Rapids, Iowa July 3, 1943 Dearest, Saturday so off work at noon. Ate & shopped then stopped at Hazels. On home and washed our bedroom curtains. Did other things around the house. Had supper at Madeline Healeys, county nurse. Then home and Ardy came. She came to get her car and go to West Union Monday afternoon. We had lots of talk about her child welfare job up there. She is very well pleased with her location. Its time they gave her a good break. Leone and Jack stopped in later evening. They had been shopping and then visiting Uncle Lew. I had a little birthday present ready for her -- a pair of baby shoes made of soap. She and I always have such a fuss over shoes and our feet hurting and of course her hobby is still soap. I told her she would have to give me her shoe ration ticket! My feet hurt worst today they ever have, but we had a heavy rain this evening so they should be better tomorrow. I've soaked them in hot Epsom salt water and they feel better already. Tonight it is an even year you left. I hope you are here by another July 3. And I believe you will be too. I love you more than I can say, Laddie. Love, Laura
