No. 114 Pvt. Lloyd Davis, 37420240 Co D. 39th Inf. A.P.O. 9 % Postmaster New York, New York Mrs. Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa July 9, 1943 Dearest, Such a lazy day and such a lazy wife. This was the first day of my week off. And working late last night was a good alibi for getting up late. Except [Balcar?] called at eight o'clock about the marker. They fired one sexton and the new one is from Cedar Memorial. So maybe they'll get the job done with the stones even with the ground. Went to Hazels and we went to Linwood and I talked with the new sexton. Then we did a lot of errands down town and we ate at Joe's with Leone and Jack. In the afternoon we did more errands, visited at home here, took Hazel home, met Mrs Hunt and ate at the Commonwealth. Then with Polly, Leone, Jack went to Marion for Jack to see a boat. Of course he didn't buy. Then I took Mrs Hunt out to see her daughter at Camp Good Health. It was cooler by then so it was pleasant to be out in the country a while. I got two light proof shades for our bedroom. They are washable too and I think you'll like them. If cuts out the kitchen light from Lunds completely. I love my laddie. I hope you get mail. Love, Laura [doodle of two smiling stick figures]
