No. 115 Pvt. Lloyd Davis, 37420240 Co. D. 39th Inf. Regt. A.P.O. 9 % Postmaster New York, New York, Mrs Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa July 10, 1943 Dearest, I forgot to tell you yesterday that I mailed the watch to you. I hope it arrives eventually and in good shape. I sent an extra watch strap. The buckle you can transfer by moving the cotter pin. The straps have extra pins to attach it to the sides of the watch. Being a mechanic, you probably have that all figured out before you ever see my "directions"! I've been paying close attention to the news bulletins that are interrupting the radio programs to tell about the Sicily invasion. The sooner this is all over and the men can be home again the better. Its been seven months and 4 days since I saw you and it lacks a week of being six months since you talked to me by phone. If we both come through the rest of the months as well as these, we will be very fortunate. At least I know that as late as June 17 you were well. Tell me the name and hometown of your Georgia buddy, and the names of any special buddy every time you have one to write, as it might be something we, or their families, might be real glad to have some time. I've known it to be a help when part of some soldier's service record got lost. So don't forget. I shopped and visited today too. I certainly didn't hurry a bit! Goodnight, laddie. Love, Laura [doodle of two smiley faces]
