No. 111 Pvt. Lloyd Davis, 37420240 Co. D. 39th Inf. Regt. A.P.O. 9 % Postmaster New York, New York, Mrs Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa July 12, 1943 Dearest, Another vacation day so it was another good loaf day. I didn't even get completely dressed until after one o'clock. I went to Beauty Shop. And I visited with Mr Jacobs who gave me a fairly tough non-fiction book to read. He is on a committee that will have a hand in my work if I really do go to work as a child welfarer here. Plans still are that I will start on that job, August 1, but as I've said, I will really believe it only after I've actually started. I had my main meal with Miss Norris, Public Health Nurses director, at the Harmony. Took her home; went to Leones, and we got our painting equipment and went out to the boat house. Jack took the boat out and Leone & I painted the elephants again. Then we all went for a little ride on the river. It was the coolest it had been any place today. The motor stalled a while but it came back to life so that no rowing had to be done. I didn't know before that Riley's place was so close to the river. I'll be glad when you can bet back on the button sewing job for me. When you are gone there is no one I can really talk to. But we will make up when you get here for lost time. Love, Laura [doodle of two smiley faces]
