No. 121 Pvt. Lloyd Davis, 37420240 Co. D. 39th Inf. Regt. A.P.O. 9 % Postmaster New York, New York Mrs. Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa July 16, 1943 Dearest, The first day back to work after vacation. Had lots to do. But Lucy Siver certainly kept my work up fine for me. And she didn't do any complaining about my cases either. I knew she wouldn't as she was so nice about everything when I was absent visiting you at Croft and [illegible]. I'll do her work next week. Leone and I walked to [Durin's?] tonight and then they dropped me off at home. We still keep our cars at Rudes -- Hearn's now. Yesterday one car was "lost" for a while from Hearns and there was a big rumpus and explaining by the company. The kids said it was real funny -- and Hearns said they "found" it on the was rack at 9:15 of a day the relief office uses cars! Saw Jake when I got gas. He said Irish got hit yesterday by one of the springs from inside the tracks of a big cat. He loosened it and it snapped at him. Wounds not serious as he was right next to it so there wasn't a big sweep first. The four pints of fruit I canned yesterday I mean the Bing cherries and prunes look OK today. I love my laddie, I hope the mail gets to you now. Goodnight war war Love, Laura
