No. 116 Pvt. Lloyd Davis, 37420240 Co. D 39th Inf. Regt. A.P.O. 9 % Postmaster New York, New York Mrs. Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa July 16, 1943 Dearest, Another Sabbath. Hazel wanted to go to Baptist Church so I went with her. Mr. Anderson seemed very familiar. Mrs Eckert was there and I guess that is why Hazel particularly wanted to go there. Aunt Min was there and some of Mother's friends I met last year. Anderson is Protestant chaplain to the Coe [Aircrew?] and he made some war remarks that sounded like he would know how we feel. A $120 check came yesterday that said you had made a transfer of funds. Aren't you drawing any wages for yourself? Also they never sent me any war bonds. I'm wondering if your account hasn't more than one bond in it? Or maybe you ordered a bigger one than the $25 denomination and so it is not yet completed. If you can ever use money, it can be wired because it is a message allowed. You're allowed to wire me the amount, and, of course I'll send it immediately. I guess the situation we find ourselves in now, money doesn't amount to much. I'll buy war bonds with the $120. I visited Emily, Ray was fishing. We went for a ride. And ate, of course! Mattie was in town last week just in time to catch his train west. He's going to work -- Pearl Harbor ship yards. Mrs Mattie felt terrible, Emily said. And his girl is just 16 yrs old. Mrs went on war job in Ark all winter with him and she thought there was plenty of jobs here needing to be done. Not enough space left to say how much I love my laddie. Laura
