No. 119 Pvt. Lloyd Davis, 37420240 Co. D. 39th Inf. Regt. A.P.O. 9 % Postmaster New York, New York Mrs. Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa July 14, 1943 Dearest, Esther typed a letter to the St Paul agency declining their offer for me to go to them on Aug 15. Then we went out to the OK Drive Inn by Marion Blvd on First Ave and had a chicken dinner. It was good, and I don't usually like cafe chicken. I was at Leones a short time. Jack fixed the zipper of my seersucker suit (plaid you know) and Leone sewed it when he got it threaded back right. I'm glad it was fixable because you can't buy metal zippers now. Was at Churchills office. His girl is working there this summer and I bet Ma will know every item now. That's catty but Mrs C. always struck me that way. Bought war bonds with maturity value of $275 today. Used your special transfer allotment of $120 and the Perpetual dividend. Only $10 month can be put in Perpetual now so I don't bother to put in that small an amount. Also put little dabs in each bank this week, $20 & $25 I think. And $10 in Perpetual this time as I was over there. The big labor job of the day was mowing the lawn this evening. I decided it never was going to be very cool time to do it, so I just got at it. Not hard. I love my laddie. Goodnight, Laura
