No. 123 Pvt. Lloyd Davis, 37420240 Co. D. 39th Inf. Regt. A.P.O. 9 % Postmaster New York, New York Mrs. Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa July 18, 1943 Dearest, Such a pretty day today. Leone & Jack stopped last night at 10 o'clock on their way home. We had lemonade and a nice visit. They left about 11:15. I went to bed and Joanie came in quite early. I got us a pretty good breakfast -- black raspberries, whole wheat toast, scrambled eggs and coffee. I was awake early (8 o'clock!) so I could be really leisurely. Wore white long sleeved blouse and slacks, and still got dressed for church on time in my rose chambry sports dress. That description sounds about like I was really stricken with efficiency! Church was good and I ate at Harmony. Joanie was out with Bill until 4 o'clock. He is on night shift so she has been here this evening. Jewel and Richard [Bla___?] visited here for about two hours this afternoon. We studied your letter of June 17 with a whole array of maps. We had a fine time! For supper, Joanie and Miss Norris were here. We had just a simple lunch as long as it was Sunday supper. Tiny was mean to Mrs Hampton. She is doing Mrs H's work on a swap basis, and saw her yesterday [illegible] Me Too and let on every thing was wrong with her case load. That makes me appreciate Lucy more than ever for being so good about mine last week. I hope it won't be so long before we can be together. However long, I'm in my place every day even when you are far away and in hard circumstances. Goodnight, laddie. Your war war, Laura
