Pvt.(?) Lloyd Davis Mrs. Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S. E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa July 23, 1943 Dearest, Late at night and I'm just getting at your letter. Lots going on this evening as George Fisher leaves for service at 1:40 in the morn. He has already passed his exams and been sworn in and his furlough is over. He and his girl friend stopped for a few minutes and he says his greeting to you. I took a pound box of candy covered almonds to his mother for our present to him. I thought that would be lots of pieces and something durable for the boys to eat. I was at Coggan and Central City today substituting for Lucy. It certainly seemed good to be in the old district again. And the weather was perfect so that it was a pleasure to drive. Real summer weather of course. Saw Dr. Adams. He said he was in his 77th year, you remember how we speculated on his age. He's slipped some since I worked that district regularly, but he still doesn't seem his age. Did not see any of your fellow workmen up there on my trip. I suppose they are on some side road, and I went on the paving. The day was busy because I still have Lucy's and mine to do. I'm well and busy waiting for you to come. Love, Laura. V-mail
