Pvt. Lloyd Davis, 37420240 Regt. A.P.O.9 c/o Postmaster New York, New York Mrs. Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa July 24, 1943 Dearest, Such a big purchase that I made today, and a selfish one too as it is in my own benefit. I got a 19 jewel Elgin wrist watch. I hope you like it. How about it being your present to me, since I used "our" money. I miss not having the time so when I work that I know it will be a great convenience besides a very pretty luxury. It is very plain gold, almost square, clear Roman numerals on a white face and a curved, extra thick crystal. Like stuff we usually buy in being good and not showy at all, from Mr. Pratska. I had an interesting client at the mission today. I'm taking her to a nursing home Monday. She says there are so many liars on earth that she wonders who'll ever be in heaven! I got a cotton sheet blanket, and one really long enough for us. It was an odd lot and soiled, so I got it cheaper. And I washed it this afternoon. I also washed another batch. But it is so sultry that they are not going to be dry by bed time. It is threatening rain so I'll bring them in anyway. Maybe tomorrow I'll get an extra letter off to you. I'll be in my place. And I remember you all the time. Love, Laura. [smiling face]
