No. 2 Pfc Lloyd Davis, 37420240 Mrs. Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa August 30, 1943 Deares, Maybe you'll never receive these letters, but I'm going to keep on trying for a while again. You would have laughed a lot if you'd been home tonight. Esther Flitsch & I ate at the Harmony and came home. She "helped" and I ironed until almost 9 o'clock. Then Lenore and Lumie came to visit. They had come after ice. They soon got to talking and talking, like no one but they can do, and they were just as laughable and asked just as many questions as in the old times! Esther grinned from ear to ear. Had a nice visit by phone with Rose. They took phlox out to the graves yesterday evening and added them to the white flowers I had put there, like I told you yesterday. Mrs. Churchill called that Bob wrote he was in Ireland and wanted your address. We decided to wait on the address until I hear from you again. He sent them a very cheerful letter. Since I discontinued the daily letters I've skipped a lot of news. I bought a black jumper dress and a black spring (& fall) coat. The blouse situation is poor, but I have what all I'll need now. And I have a pretty nightgown hoarded. I got oiled silk covers for the toaster and the mixer that are white dots with green trim to match the new kitchen colors. The new job as childrens worker is rolling right along. I love my laddie and I'm in my place. Love, Laura [smiling face]
