No. 3 Pfc Lloyd Davis 37420240 Mrs. Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa August 31, 1943 Dearest, Work went well today. The weather was nice and it was cool in the morning but very warm this afternoon. You know ow those Iowa September days are, and even if this is the last day of August it was that kind. Miss hunt and I ate at the Commonwealth and then we went up past Conrads Beach to cool off a little. Then I dropped her off and went on to Jacks. Uncle Lew was there. we all went to Lilah's. They have done a terrible lot of work remodeling the house on the farm (on the Crabapple Road about 2 mi no of the paving) they bought this spring. And they have a great lot more to do. They are on a slight knoll and the breezes and the view for the farm buildings are fine. War news as we get it is good. I'm afraid some people feel like "they are doing it", and not realizing it is the very men we know who are paying the price. I am glad if you don't have too hard a time being tough. You would be glad and pleased to look in on me and see I'm doing all right on that score. And it is because of you caring for me that I can. Without a husband so good to me and one I can trust in any circumstance I'd really be in bad shape. I'm glad you are not among the men left here scurrying around to see if they can miss the army. You may suspect Laddie there is no one as great as my husband. Love, Laura V-Mail
