No. 5 Pfc Lloyd Davis, 37420240 Mrs. Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa September 3, 1943 Dearest, Another day of good weather and a day the job went well. I went to work early so I could leave early and get a hair do. I don't have to be at the new job until 9 in the morning and that surely makes a big difference in getting things done around home. But I went at 8 today, had orange juice with Leone at the Pantry - we call that our breakfast club and Lucy Siver usually stops too. Tiny goes snorting by ignoring us! My hair is getting real long now, and lots easier to keep up. I get it thinned so it is not too heavy. I stopped at Hazels and talked with Carl especially about unions as I need two laborers for my board. He mentioned one man in their plant who had had a lot of experience talking to the bosses, so we may look him up. Then I'll try to find some woman plant worker, maybe from Quaker. Ester came home with me after I'd had supper at Mary Anne's and had been to McIlvains. She visited while I scrubbed the bathroom and our room. Then we had a little snack and she went home. Stopped at Uncle Lew's today as I was on business right in front of his house. He's trying to get a burner for Aunt Min and as usual she is so uncertain what she wants. He is in good health and spirits. Your Aug 20 letter came today and I was glad to get it. Your letters are worth more to me than I can tell. I love you and I'm busy "helping" To Laddie, Love, Laura [smiling face]
