Put. Lloyd Davis 37420240 Co F Inf. - 17PO 759 Postmaster, New York New York Mrs Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S.E Cedar Rapids, Iowa April 1, 1943 Dearest, The typed up V-mail is all used now, so until Flora has time to fix me a new batch, I'll get it ready in ink and my own brand of printing. If my letters do not photograph well I can type them. Say what you prefer. April Fools day and I didn't see any practical jokes around. That is all right too! Still stuck on office routines as I didn't get everything done the last day of the month of March. Just this minute the dog came to get meat and barked like old days. That's the first time since last fall. That proves Spring is here. I gave him 1 slice of bacon - really very generous now that we have meat only on ration points. I'm writing this in the break-fast nook or else I might not have noticed the dog. I'm running a batch of rugs and the machine just got through. The sun is still shining brightly though it is all ready 6:15. I'll hang them out now to get the most of the water out of them. I've had supper too so you see I'm getting work done early. Mrs Vogt gave me a ride to our door so that I didn't have to spend as much time getting home as when I wait for the bus. Rude's are neglecting the cars like they often were, so I sure mentioned in detail the ailments of mine tonight and its the third time too. I'll wager it is in better shape tomorrow! Freddie would enjoy knowing that! Behrends (?) asked today about you. Met Chas. King downtown. He is on 15 day leave from Columbia S.C. To (?) the best laddie there ever was, the love of war war (?). [smiley face] Love, Laura
