Jerry Berchenbirter was assigned to Camp Roberts. But no one here knows yet what service he was assigned. Harry is still in Maryland, so the boys are certainly separated. Jerry enlisted as he thought he wasn't doing enough to help when just a student. The Board is decided I guess, altho' I haven't been notified yet, to give me a leave to be the director of the day care of children for the city. That of course is a program only for the duration of the war to take care of plans for the children of working women. It is to be set up as a three month demonstration and the need is to be determined in that time -- then we go on with a big program or else decide it is not needed. Then I'd go back to the county office. The Office of Civilian Defense (OCD) will sponsor the program maybe with the School Board, or else alone. It won't be an easy
