Saving...
The Psychopatic Hospital The State University of Iowa Iowa City, Iowa Jan. 19, 1942 Dear Laura, I was so glad to hear from you, and to know that you are married. My most sincere wishes for every happiness are yours and Slim's I have never been as happy in my life as I have been since Dec. 12, 1941. Ernie is everything I thought he would be and more. I'm sure you & Slim will find the same true - increasing happiness every day. Today, though, I'm not so happy. Ernie left yesterday morning, recalled to the army. We knew, of course, it would happen, but that doesn't make it any easier. We don't know where he will be, and the worst - when we will ever see each other again. One small consolation is that when he does come back this next time, it should be to stay, and we can live without the cloud hanging over our heads. I am staying in the room we had together. It will seem more like home to be where he was and with his things - books, radio, etc. It is a little more than I would ordinarily pay, but believe my morale is worth it!
