Saving...
503 Grand ave. Ames, Iowa May 7, 1942 Dear Frances, As the almanac used to say, "about this season of the year," it is time for Frances to send me a present. I hardly realized that it was my birthday at the time you sent the cake. Judging from my delay in writing, you have good reason to wonder if the postman robbed the package enroute. Well, he didn't. It was a very good cake and a fitting contribution to the needs of a couple of bachelors. How goes the housework? Is that glass rolling pin lasting pretty well? Bet you wish you had room for some chickens in your back yard. I can imagine you revelling in the poultry yard. Suppose everyone who has the space is busy gardening. I notice several back yards and also several lots in the railroad right-of-way that are being used for gardens. Another noticeable thing is the number of professors who have taken to bicycles. But it seems that bicycles are getting scarce too.
