17 October /39 Dear Mary Ellen: Thank you very much indeed for the money-order which you sent at your personal expense; I did not realise at the time that such was the case, although I did have my suspicions. Anyway, it was very sweet of you. Also thank Father for the last remuneration, which I received on Friday. Today I got the books and notes and candy. Again, thanks so much. The only difficulty is that there wasn't enough notes. I hate to bother you about this stuff, Mary, but I would like very much to have all my S.U.I. notes as soon as possible, unless you have some further use for them. Also if you can find any more S.C. notebooks, I would like them - what I am interested in
