3736 12th St., N.E. Washington, D.C. 21 October 1942 Dear Dad - Thank you for your letter which I received today. I am sorry it's been such a long time since I have written, but I have had very little time to myself in recent weeks. Monday I received notice of my reclassification to 1-A. Knowing the way my draft board operates, I expect induction orders in two weeks or less (you remember last year it was just about a month from the time I first received my questionnaire to the time I was at Fort Des Moines ready to be inducted). I am very glad in a way - to see at least the beginning of the end of these two years of suspicion and ineptitude. I wish that I had been taken last January; the period of adjustment would be over by now. I don't think there'll be any hitch this time, though. Even now, however, the Army is not the only course open to me. I don't know whether
