184 Borax The washerwomen of Holland use a handful of borax to every 10 gallons of water To clean blankets - 2 tablespoons of borax to a pint of soap to a tub of water. Take 5 cts worth of lime - dissolve in a pail of water - put in mildewed clothes - let them lie in it 3 or 4 hours - then wash and all the mildew will disappear. Whitewash for wood or brick or stone. Slack 1/2 bushel lime in boiling water keeping covered while slacking - strain, and add 1 peck salt dissolved in hot water - put 3 lbs ground rice in boiling water and boiled to a thin paste. 1/2 lb spanish white, powdered and 1 lb clear glue dissolved in warm water. Mix, and let stand several days. Put on as hot as possible.
