H. D. Q Co C-D 26th U.S.N. Const. Batt. Fleet Post Office San Francisco, Calif. August 22, 1943 Dear Lloyd, In one of her recent letters, Laura gave me your address. Perhaps you have a new one by now. Mail has a way of catching up with service men so I might expect you to receive this without undue delay. I'll be interested to know how it made out as it will have a long journey no matter which way it goes. Well, you have gone a long way and have seen plenty of sights - and action. Was glad to know that you came through the African campaign without wounds or illness. I can image that gunners behind a trench mortar are on a hot spot once their position is located. Anyhow, there must have been some satisfaction in helping to blast them into submission for their first time. Have wondered if you've been in Sicily too. Perhaps you will be permitted to say. Don't imagine there is much you can write in the army either.
