Saving...
Cedar Rapids, Iowa Feb 20 - 1944 Dear Lloyd: If I had written you as often as I thought about it you wouldn't be getting the first letter from me now. we speak of you often. Harry & I went to call on George & Rose one Sunday evening in Jan in fact I believe it was the day before George's birthday. Harry Jr. has been in Camp Murphy Fla. at a radar school all winter. He sure enjoyed the warm weather. I hope if he gets a delay he won't forget to wear his overcoat home, for he will need it. He expects a boat ride before long. Gerald is at Univ. of Kansas at Lawrence in an A.S.T.P. unit. He is thinking seriously of transferring to air force. He is an infantry man. Kenneth enlisted in air corps 2 weeks ago. I think they won't take him until after he is 18 in Sept. He keeps telling me that soon I can have a service flag with 3 stars. We are going to get our winter all after ground hog's day. I guess. The snow that people thought we were not going yo get is coming nicely, too. Harry is milking a barn full of cows this winter. In the last 15 da. we got 8 new calves. Since Harry jr. went to the army we use a surge milker (2 units.) Next season we are going to farm Harry's father's farm too. Will keep us old folks pretty busy I guess; but will try to do our part. We are thinking you will be coming home for a rest before very long.Your cousin Lewella Berchenbriter.
