#111 Fourth of July Nineteen Eighteen Belovedest,- At this time one year ago tonight I was standing under a shed at the entrance to Fort Snelling watching the lightning crash all about, wondering what would happen to me for being late into my company quarters. As I remember my reflections at the time I didn't much care what might happen, for I had had a thoroughly happy afternoon. Probably I was saying to myself, "She's a pretty good pal, she is, but why she falls for Hy's stuff. I ---?" And, no doubt I was allowing my cynicism to tell me that after all the good time we had had was all froth, that she had jollied me along in the way of all the rest simply to have her fun.
