Ninety-Six June 13, 1918 My dear little fat wife,- Among the superior characteristics of my billet of which you have not heard tell yet are electric lights, polished floors, rugs, and an ornamental fireplace. Of these the lights are of the most consequence at present. Last night I hopped into my pajamas and started to read in bed - than which one can do few things more luxurious. The light was properly fixed for complete luxury by having a cord and button at the head of the bed so one could snap off the light and got to sleep without moving his weary limbs. The system is hindered under present conditions by the necessity for keeping curtains and shutters closed to keep the light from the Hun bombers. To open the window one must
