career I was a dramatic critic. I was so damn hard to please that the town theatrical trust didn't like me and finally persuaded my chief to put me at writing politics and sech. The change proved to be profitable for me but I never lost my interest in plays and musical stuff nor the critic's attitude concerning them. Sanborn succeeded me. I used to go with him to the performances I wanted to see, and we would analyze them from top to bottom between acts and afterward. Next morning I would find most of my ideas in his review.
