have to remain some time to oversee the withdrawal from France and - let us hope - from Germany. I have thought of offering my services on condition that I be permitted to have Mrs. Reynolds with me. How would that appeal to you, honey girl? However, it may be that by the time we have won the fight I'll be so tired of Europe that I shall not be able to stand another minute of it. In that case, or in the event that I cant have you come, I'll take the first boat for home that I can get on. This is only a dream as yet. The war has just begun for us, and it is so deadly serious that perhaps I shouldn't even contemplate beyond the plans for the present moment.
