medously at first meeting and was looking forward to formation of a genuine personal acquaintance with him to supplement the acquaintance I already felt through having followed his literary work since it first gained attention. Well - today he was shot down in the German lines. We don't know whether he was killed. There are reports that he righted his machine before landing, so we are hoping he was only taken prisoner. In any event, however, we regret his loss very deeply because he was one of our most experienced and most skillful pilots as well as a charming fellow.
