I stopped on the way to investigate a hole in the rocky hillside and a pretty mossy place; and I paused to watch for a moment, unobserved, a doughboy who was astride an old stone wall intently reading a copy of McClure's. It was evident that he was enjoying life hid in the woods, so I slipped by without disturbing him.
