and clever. I'm sorry you didn't find her more so. She is so very fortunate to be able to be just where she is. I find that the pride of being an American officer's wife -- and darlingest, there is a mountain of pride in it -- has one little drawback, namely the law which forbids such wives the right to go across. It isn't altogether a selfish motive that has kept prodding me along, either. I certainly want to be with you, above all else, but that denied me, there are so many things I could do to help if I could only be somewhere in France.
