The siren was not so distracting last night as to keep me from reading your letters, the three that came yesterday, with much delight. (Don't you dare make any cracks about that statement. --- a siren is a kind of whistle). They surely were delicious love letters, one in particular being as near a masterpiece I am sure as anyone could write using such an ordinary human as your husband as an inspiration. The inflow of letters in the last few days has filled in the gaps and straightened the series out for me so that I have since I arrived here a fine string of em stretching your line of pretty caresses from July 31 on
