According to [REDACTED] if not a member, is at least regarded as highly sympathetic to Communism. [REDACTED] is a member of the Communist Party according to [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] is of Communist sentiments and associates with persons known to [REDACTED] as Communist Party members. b2 b7C b7D [REDACTED] advised that on February 15, 1952, the subject went to Sioux City, Iowa, and returned on February 18, 1952 in connection with the [REDACTED] Civil Rights action. On February 29, 1952, according to [REDACTED] OTTO ANSTROM was present at the home of the subject EDNA GRIFFIN. b2 b7D On March 3, 1952, OTTO ANSTROM was at the home of EDNA GRIFFIN. SPEECHES, WIRTING, ETC., AND PERTINENT CONTACTS WITH C.P. LEADERS By letter dated January 11, 1952, the Laboratory advised that an examination of a letter addressed to [REDACTED] signed "with love, EDNA GRIFFIN" was signed by the known signature of EDNA GRIFFIN. [REDACTED] in the case entitled "UNITED STATES Versus WILLIAM SCHNEIDERMAN, ETAL, United States District Court, Los Angeles, California, Communist Party - USA" and of prosecution under the Smith Act. b7C As regards contact with Communist Party Leaders, contacts with OTTO ANSTROM, Communist party Organizer of the State of Iowa and Nebraska were set out under the previous caption. MISCELLANEOUS It was ascertained that B.E. COLEMAN, a correspondent of the subject, 1007 - 18th Street, Des Moines, Iowa, is a Miss BESSIE COLEMAN, age 70, who, according to the information contained in the Des Moines Credit Bureau, was a former teacher with the St. Louis, Missouri Board of Education having retired in October of 1950. In St. Louis she resided at 1703 Good Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri. According to a written report in the Credit Bureau she is described as conservative, of good habits, character, and reputation. She is not known to [REDACTED] as being connected with Communist activities. b2 b7D -3-
