OM 100-4095 San Cristobal Valley Ranch, San Cristobal, New Mexico on May 19, 1952. [ ] advised that on May 28, 1952, the San Cristobal Valley Ranch was in contact with Mr. and Mrs. STANLEY GRIFFIN. (U) (U) It is to be noted that STANLEY GRIFFIN is the subject's husband. b2 b7C b7D [handwritten] IOWA [ Confidential Informant [ ] of known reliability advised] that [ ] [ ] of the San Cristobal Valley Ranch, San Cristobal, New Mexico, are members of the Communist Party. This informant indicated that the ranch is a regarded as a haven and refuge for Communist Party members who seek rest and inspiration in connection with the Communist party activities and the ranch is also considered to be a meeting place for policy making Communist Party groups because of its desirability from a security standpoint. (U) Confidential Informant Omaha [ ] of known reliability advised the subject has renewed her subscription to the " Daily Worker, an east coast Communist newspaper as of July 23, 1952. (U) [Confidential Informant [ ] of known reliability advised] that on December 30, 1952, there was a young white woman distributing pamphlets in front of the Bookey Packing Company, Des Moines, Iowa [ ] advised] these pamphlets consisted of a plea to save the ROSENBERGS and were signed by the Progressive Party of the State of Iowa, on behalf EDNA GRIFFIN and [ ] b2 b7C b7D (U) [ ] advised [ ] is a member of the Communist Party. (U) [ Confidential Informant Omaha [ ] who has supplied both reliable and unreliable information, advised on April 6, 1953] [ ] of the Quint City Progressive Social Club at the UE Center, Rock Island, Illinois. ILL. Those present were [ ] and [ ] It was decided to have a social on April 11, and the profits were to be sent to the Communist Party. [ ] stated this group has already sent $8.00 to the National Guardian and $5.00 to the Communist Party or Progressive Party in Des Moines. He stated the money was sent to EDNA GRIFFIN, State Organizer for the Communist Party, her address being 1108 Third Street, Des Moines. (U) b2 b7C b7D SPEECHES, WRITINGS, ETC AND PERTINENT CONTACTS WITH COMMUNIST PARTY LEADERS. By letter dated January 11, 1952, the FBI Laboratory advised that an examination of a letter addressed to [ ] signed, " With love, EDNA GRIFFIN" was signed by known signature of EDNA GRIFFIN. [ ] in the case entitled, " United States versus WILLIAM SCHNEIDERMAN, etal, United States District Court, Los Angeles, California, Communist Party USA " and of prosecution under the Smith Act. b7C -5-
